Product page vs blog — which one does AI actually read?

Why marketplace listings are invisible to AI, and why your own store and blog are GEO's home turf. A rundown of AI-readability by surface.

⏰ The 30-second version

  • Whether AI can read you is decided by the surface — only pages where the text physically exists in the HTML get read.
  • Most marketplace listings (Amazon, Etsy, and the like) are a single image — lush to the human eye, a blank page to AI.
  • GEO's home turf is your own store's product pages and your blog. One text post is more visible than ten image-based detail pages.
  • This isn't a call to quit marketplaces — it's a call to add one more text surface for AI to read.

Same content, different fate: image vs text

You've probably poured ingredient tables, usage instructions, and comparison charts into your listing. The problem is that most of it is built as an image. For design freedom, the industry standard became one big flat image.

To a human, it makes no difference. To AI, it's everything. AI reads a page's text and uses it as material — and letters inside an image aren't text. The result: the page packed with the most information becomes, to AI, the emptiest page of all.
